Why do you see African-american directed clothes sell for so cheap at closeout stores?
110218_434

Someone's question made me think about this. I can go to stores like TJ Maxx and Marshall and see racks and racks of Phat Farm, Baby Phat, Fubu, Marc Ecko, Sean John, Apple Bottoms, etc. clothing for dirt cheap. These clothes all have rather pricey stickers out of the factory. Why do all these black inspired, focused, what have you clothing bottom out and end up in these discount clothing stores in masses. In the same stores you can find $65.00 Ralph Lauren polos sell for $30.00, and then see a $100.00 (no joke) Baby Phat purse sell for $10.00
sorry, I am also black, not a white Redneck as my screen name and avatar suggest. I am using my roomates account

Baby Phat clothes?
100814_136

Is Baby Phat for only African American people? My older sister told me it is. But I really love some of their clothes. NOTE: This is NOT intended to be a racist questionm so no bad comments, please. Thanks! :) ♥

No, its just a stereotype, people that spreaded that rumor that it was for only black people prob thougt that it was too trashy for white people or that since americans dominate most line they thought that lines like apple bottoms, akademiks, and baby phat were only for blacks. And Kimora Lee Simmons is only half black and she wouldn't make anything for just blacks and its kinda like saying since it was made by somebody white only whites can wear it, no offense but ur sis was being kinda racist, she may not have known it when she said it but people can get offended by that and discriminating against ones race whether it be clothes or anything is racism

follow up-african american baby names?
Girl's African Print Peasant Top

I just asked a question refering to "african american baby names ?". And for all the ignorant people out there, first off, its hard for any african american to identitfy our original culture because if you knew history you would know that we were stripped of it. African american culture today such as hip hop, clothing our slang is our new culture as we know it, the only one we have! So for anyone out there who doesnt understand why we name our children the way names we do or why we speak or look the way we do realize that it is 2007, and this is our new culture that we had to create ourselves, with its good and bad, alllll of it is a direct result of oppression and it gives us our identity. So and African American name...whatever it may be sha-naynay, is what we have had to create because we are not african, we are african descent. The african american is a race by its self, nobody hates on becky and sara so back off. So for all the ignorant comments, go screw yourself!

First of all you're using this space as a rant... and you can be reported for that so be very careful honey.

Second, rap culture is not black culture. Its just not... sagging the pants, is not black culture, that derives from prison culture... do some research, the slang is an urban thing, I've seen white and asian kids talking just like the black kids, and sadly so many people are ignorant enough to believe this to be our culture, that they call the white kids wiggas. Well when spanish kids run around callin each other "N*gga" there is no problem... but its the end all to be all when a white or asian kid does it. I think the damn term is wrong accross the board.

You are portraying yourself to be a very racist, very stereotypical person here. If you were offended by the MANY racist people who answered your question, trust me I was there I saw it too and was pissed, YOU DONT STOOP TO THEIR LEVEL ever. You dont EVER let anyone bring you up out of yourself... that gives them too much control over you honey.

The black race is lost... we are. Dont even know what the hell our culture is, dont know much of anything about ourselves, and its the youth that are helping this along. We need to learn to differentiate between hip-hop/rap culture, and urban/street culture. THIS IS NOT black culture!!! This is not our inheretance as black people.

We were stripped of our original culture, and black culture has been evolving ever since. There are many things, many elements of society today that are a part of the legacy of blacks, our contribution to american culture/society, and our culture! Rap is one such contribution. But rap is not black culture. I hate rap, because the disgusting things they do and represent present the black race to people everywhere as such. What people see in rap is greed, lack of respect for human life, hypersexualized immagery, misogyny, homophobia, xenophobia and more. Is this REALLY what you want to call black culture? Do you really want to present to the world, and to racists!!!!, as our culture and values? That would be like me going to a group of racist or prejudiced white people and saying, oh yeah I'm black so its ok that I'm undereducated, and got 3 baby daddies cause you stripped me of my culture!

its bullshi*! I dont believe it worth a damn. I hate it, and often because I educate people to this truth, I am called a sellout to the race. People call me white girl all the time, but guess what I would rather you think I am a white girl. lol If being black means living a disparaged, degrading life, doomed to failure and underachievement, and being white means preparing for the future, grooming yourself for success, graduating from college and having respect for yourself and others, then I will be the most successful white girl you ever freakin knew.

You are feeding into the stereotypes and proving them, racists on this site and abroad, correct. I suggest you do a bit more research on hip-hop culture before you go calling it black.

Can someone give me a list of African American name brands?
African-Inspired Girl's Dress

My school is having an African American assembly and i would like to do one on fashion. I was thinking that me and my classmates could model famous name brand clothes designed by African Americans. I just need stuff like Baby Phat and Sean John. Muchos Gracias!

We would love to adopt a biracial hispanic baby girl. Do you know anyone interested in allowing us to adopt?
African-Inspired Girl's Dress

We have tried for14 years to have a baby. We have spent all of our savings going to doctors taking fertility treatments. I nearly died from a reaction a shots I took daily. One time, we lost the baby three months later and it devastated us. We mortgaged our home, and my husband took an extra job to earn money to go to an adoption facilitator. We have been waiting since forever and now they told us that our contract is up that we'd have to pay another huge amount of money if we want to adopt. We have just about given up. We are a biracial couple and we love each other. We are placing our trust in God. Do you know of anyone interested in placing their baby girl for adoption (biracial, African American, hispanic) please let us know. We would like a daughter because we have a room and tons of baby girl clothes, diapers, bottles, crib, blankets, push, everything and have had them for about a year now, waiting for a child to love. Please let us know.

you know you should check out adopition agenicies
