I'm thinking about a going to a consignment shop with my daughter's baby clothes if we don't have another girl. How much do you acutally get for items? I know some money goes to the shop, of course, but I'm not familiar with how it actually works. I wonder if I would be better off selling the items on my own. I know that donating is an option, too, so please don't lecture me on that! Thanks!
It really depend son the consignment shop. I used to donate to two different ones. One I would generally get anywhere from $1.00 to $5.00 per item with an average of $2.50 and the consignment shop takes 50% of what they list it for ie in this case $2-$10. They do not take everything as it has to be in great condition without any stains (even if you can't normally see them they have a special lamp) and certain styles. I have seen higher end ones that pay you after the item sells and they only take 30%. I like the ones that pay you as soon as they go through everything as they generally give you an extra 10-20% back if you use the money as store credit to buy more stuff there. For me it was great as I could buy my daughter more stuff and get rid of her old stuff she did not use and I still donated whatever the shop did not take. Hopefully this helps but you may just have to ask the shops in your area. My garage sales were alway s a lot of work and I sold them for $1 flat so I made more at the shops.
I have never been to one where you price your own stuff so I can not add to the comment before me.

Hello. I am wondering which would be the more profitable option for selling used baby clothes in good condition. Consignment shops in my area take 50-60% commission. Ebay, of course, adds the element of shipping into the equation, so it seems that things would sell better as lots rather than separate items.
Does anyone have experience with this?
go with the store, if it doesnt cant sell on ebay, u still will be charged

Any idea which would make more money?
To answer your question, a consignment shop would probably be better. While you might net more on Ebay, the time you spend packing, shipping, communicating, etc would be more costly than taking them in one fell swoop to the consignment store. One word of advice about consignment stores - don't sign the form that if they don't sell the store gets to keep them. Instead, make the extra trip back to pick them up, donate them, and get $$ off your taxes!

i live in jackson mississippi and need extra cash since gas is quickly climbing more and i had my son in march, we have TONS of clothes that he never wore because he go too big too fast. i have an appointment with a consignment shop wednesday to sell them. i have a lot more stuff than i am taking but i just want to see how it is, i dont really know of any good ones or any that has been around for a while but does anyone else know of any around me? and about how much will they pay you for mostly new baby clothes?
put a add in the paper or craiglist.org and people will call you and you can sell them for what you want as my experience with a consignment shop was she got 50 percent and i got 50 percent or just have a old fashion yard sale so that you can sell everything that you don't need and stuff that will not get used and put the money up and i did that when my little girl was little and know about twice amonth i have one lady that calls to come see what i have so that she can buy straight from me cause i let her go threw stuff i would sale and she has came back to my house once or twice a month for almost 3 years know
I have lots of baby clothes to sell and I can't find any consignment stores for children. I live near the airport and I'm looking for anything on Oahu.
What I would do is to take nice pictures and give a good description and put them up for sale on Ebay. I use ebay all the time and purchase "Lots" of clothing so I can outfit them all at once and for cheap. Seriously check it out and you might even find yourself buying your kids school clothes there too!

Kid To Kid Consignment Store In Brentwood TN - The Fun Times Guide ...
&Nbsp; The disadvantage to consignment sales is the short time they are open (usually only 2 days twice a year), the large crowds, and the sense of urgency the shoppers feel to find that great deal before you do.
I've done them before, and there is a fair amount of work to do to prepare for one. In order to be eligible to attend the sale, you must
How Are The Prices?
The prices are why I shop consignment -- whether it's a sale or a store.
Kid to Kid has the advantage there too. The store decides on the price of items and it's consistent. On the other hand, at a consignment sale, the sellers (aka other moms like me) decide on the price. So items are not consistently priced and some are overpriced.
