Country Baby Clothes

I just wondered whether it is common to wash and iron new clothes for a newborn baby before the baby wears them for the first time? All the women in my country do that but to me it seems pointless if the clothes are brand new. They say a baby needs a sterile environment in the first weeks of his life, but to me it just seems like a bit too anxious behaviour.

I am based in the Limerick/Tipp area and I have a lot of lovely baby girl clothes, some never even worn and I want to donate them to a good, proper cause. Would any good charity chain shops do? Or does anyone know if I can put them into those purple clothes banks that are situated next to the bottle and tin recycling banks that are around the country? Cheers!

Charity shops would be delighted to get them, and as they will sell them there, they will be benefiting local shoppers, and if the charity has local projects (like Vincent de Paul and many of the others) it gets to use the money there - so win win all around.

My town has no charity shop, but 2 bigger towns nearby have several, including those supporting local needs and others fundraising for projects further away, both national and international (like Oxfam).

I am sick of the usual stuff I find at stores where I live... which is out in the country and consists of target and the mall. :) I need help making my baby boy's wardrobe a bit more fashionable.
