My clothes dryer keeps burning all of my fleece clothing what can do?
Baby Hat mushrooms

I just moved to a new house with a new dryer. I have an 8 month old baby and most of his clothes are fleece, when I dry them they come out synged. The whole point of buying him fleece is because of how soft it is. So when it comes out burnt it's pretty much useless. Fortuneatly I only had to go through two loads of his clothing before I realized that it was happening. But even with only two loads lost that was still about two hundred dollars worth of baby clothes lost.please help me anybody.

Sounds like you need a repair man or new dryer!
I have never heard of a dryer burning one type of clothing..I know fleece tends to get little balls of fuzz over it after a few rounds in a dryer and not be as soft as the day it was bought!
Perhaps you could try line drying those cloths instead of using the dryer....still if it is actually burnt I would talk to a repair man about it could be a hazard

How do you get shiny lint type material off clothes?
IMG_0135E

My sister in law threw a soft shiny fleece type baby blanket in with my newborn nephews baby clothes to wash. She then threw them all in the dryer together. When I took them out to fold them I noticed a glittery type material all over the clothes. Come to find out, it was from the fleece type blanket that she threw in with them. Is there a way to get that stuff off the clothes?? My brother and I thought maybe if we rewashed the clothes and dried them again that maybe that would work?

I think you've got the right idea. Good luck

How many newborn clothes do I need to get for a January baby in California?
toque

Our baby girl is due January next year and my hubby and I are quite confused with what and how many clothes to get for the baby. There are so many varieties of the same thing (e.g. onesies come in long/short sleeve, cotton/fleece). Winter in northern CA is not really that cold, so I'm not sure if the "winter baby" suggestions on the web are applicable...thanks
- how many of everything did you get?

We also have a Jan baby and live in Northern Ca- Honestly you don't think that you need the winter clothes because it's relatively warm- but you also need to remember that they aren't as use to the cold as you/we are. When I had my dd in 07 it was 35 here- so don't be surprised if some days get a little colder.

I personally always put onesies on my LO- not only do they keep clothes off the skin, they help to protect when they have blow outs, or leak diapers- Personally no leaky diapers but plenty of blow outs- Also in the 1st 2 months- you basically keep your LO in 1 piece outfits/ pj type- and a few outfits for special occasions or going out.

Long sleeve fleece are perfect and so are the sweat shirt material 2 piece out fits. The less snaps/buttons the better- you change them so often at this time, that zippers are best or things that you can slip over their head- I preferred the long sleeve- night gowns with draw strings at the bottom for the first month. Boy or girl-especially for night diaper changes- you just pull it up and you don't risk waking your newborn.

I honestly never put my dd in anything short sleeve until April- for going out. I think thick cotton and fleece is perfect. I would say have enough clothes for at least 3 outfits a day-so 21 article's of clothing a week- if you want to do wash every week. If you don't 42 pieces. It sounds like a lot but if you have a LO like myself you will have to change them a lot. Between the spit ups and the blow outs- Also get a good pair of booties- Carter's makes some nice knitted one's, and Target carries a nice pair of fleece once. They are much easier to get on then shoes and stay on better then socks.

Since you should be putting your LO in a thick coat or jacket under the car seat- I suggest you get a nice fleece one piece outfit from Lands End or even Carters- then just throw a thick fleece or cotton blanket over your infant carrier for going outside- the external car seat covers are not recommended due to safety issues with the seat/when connected to the base/seat belt.

Your best bet- for ease of use for the 1st month - it 2 piece long sleeve top/bottoms, and 1 piece zip up outfits or one's without a lot of snaps.
Also some stretchy cotton blankets- Carters makes some great ones for swaddling- Wearable fleece blankets are also really nice- some nights I would put my dd in a long sleeve onesie, long pants and the wearable blankets for bed- this was around 2 months- when she started sleeping for longer then 3 hours.
Congrats and good luck.

What is the best way to keep fleece blankets soft like new?
Hi dad!

All of my fleece (blankets, clothing) comes out of the wash and dryer rough and scratchy, like it has some kind of coating on it. I use a mild detergent, cold water. Throw it in the dryer with a fabric softer sheet. All the baby blankets and clothes are ruined- can they be fixed by washing them again in a certain way???

Warm them in warm water with liquid fabric softener. Those dryer sheets don't do anyhting except make the clothes smell a little better and not have static. Also, if you wash your clothes in hard water, buy some water softener and add it to the wash. It works wonders on cleaning your clothes/blankets and making them softer. Also, use liquid detergent if you are using powder. Washing clothes in cold water with powered soap is a big no no because half the time it doesn't dissolve all the way and leaves some kind of "coating" (as you put it) on your clothes.

What baby clothes to bring to the hospital?
IMG_6379

I'm due on July 10th and I'm trying to get things packed for the hospital. What clothes should I bring for the baby? I was going to bring a 2 sleepers and 2 onesies (one in newborn size and one in 0-3 mos.), plus a receiving blanket, a fleece blanket, and a cap. But its gonna be really hot out. Should she still wear both a onesie and a sleeper? Also I heard the you're not supposed to put newborns in onesies until the cord falls off...is this true?

You sound very prepared. I would also try to bring an outfit (whether onesie or two piece) that has mittens on the cuffs. Not sure how your little one will be, but mine liked to try to scratch her face. The mittens are a lifesaver the first month:)
Also, we used onesies before the cord fell off and had no problems.
Best of luck on your labor and with your baby.

There’s a snowstorm due here in Illinois this week. This means we’ll be seeing a lot more of our fleece around the house, from blankets to PJ’s to hats to my toasty fleece sweats that I usually reserve for cold nights of camping in the mountains.

Our middle son loves soft fabrics, including fleece. He has sensory processing issues (more on this at the SPD Foundation web site ), and we think that his fondness for super-soft blankets represents an up side to his finely tuned senses. He has several “favorite” blankets, most of them fleece, and he sleeps with many of them surrounding him every night. But over time, some of his blankets haven’t retained their initial silky cuddle-ability.
