Where's a good place to find neutral infant clothing and sleepwear?
Did a little shopping for Hailey!

I've been having a very hard time finding baby clothing and sleepwear .
I have no idea what I am having . I've been to Target, Walmart, The Childrens Place, and Babies R Us .No luck at all. Will I have any luck at Carters?

We didn't know what we were having either and it was extremely difficult to plan things for baby. I couldn't find anything that was truly neutral. Things that were green tended to have dinosaurs, frogs, etc. on them. Things that were yellow tended to have animals on them. I wouldn't wear any of that on a baby girl... It all said BOY to me.

I think the place that had the most neutral stuff was at Gap. It was yellow and white with no animal on it at all (except for the little Gap bear). It was only things like onesies, sleepers, and gowns though. No actual clothing. And to me, even that was boyish when it was shelved next to the same stuff in pink.

I had a baby shower where people bought me all kinds of yellow/green baby clothes ... to get me started. Well, it turned out I had a girl and I haven't worn any of it on her. I'm handing it all down brand new to my SIL who is having a boy in April. When my baby was born everyone I knew went out and bought her tons of pink clothes so we're good to go despite the fact that we had nothing for HER to start out.

My advice is to get a few necessities in neutral colors and then when you know the sex go out and get everything else.

What size clothing do you buy for an infant that is about 10 pounds?
Oshkosh (3m-8yrs)

My neice is a few days short of 4 months, and she is only 10 pounds. Do I buy newborn clothes? Or do I buy the 0-6 month size? What diaper? I see the newborn sizes go up to 10 lbs. usually, or should I get size one to be safe? My employer has given me paid leave for one month due to thie extenuating circumstance to "figure this all out". And I'm still lost. How much clothing does a baby need in their wardrobe? I've been to the Carters outlet and spent close to $300 on receiving blankets, burp cloths, towels, booties, 0-3 month clothes (figured I couldn't go wrong there) and baby items like wipes, diapers and lotions, wash, etc etc. What else do I need?
David W> No, I'm adopting my sisters special needs baby, thank you very much. I'm glad my employer is not a bonehead like you.
Hello!! People the time off work is due to the legal issues surrounding the adoption of my niece and finding childcare so I can return to work. Not just to find baby accoutrements. That's silly.

The clothes you already bought should be wearable for a little while, but you should probably buy 3-6M size. As far as how many, it depends on how often you want to do wash. I'm a baby clothes addict so my kids had nearly enough to wear a different outfit for the first 3 months of their life!! Onesies are important but I can't say I ever used receiving blankets for anything more than something to change the baby on.

Diapers I'd say a size 1, although most brands are NOT the same size so you need to experiment.

As far as other things you need, I'd invest in a bouncy seat which will be invaluable to you for the next 6 months or so, but as far as the basics go you seem like you pretty much have everything covered.

You might want to buy some baby Tylenol and gas medicine to keep on hand as well, and a baby bathtub or sling to put in the big tub. You might choose to get the book "What to expect the first year" too - very informative.

Good luck!

Anyone know of any outlet malls in Southeast Michigan. I'm grosse ile / wyandotte area. I dont wanna go to far
GAP (2-5T)

The closest one I can find is in Monroe, and someone said they dont have a lot of variety at the carters store, so i dont want to waste my time on that. I can't really find any that are relatively close when i google it. People have mentioned that there are quite a few outlet malls around. I guess I should have listened a little more. I mainly want to go for Infant clothes. Like carters or something. Any help, be appreciated. thanks!

There is a small one in Howell. Take I-96 the whole way.

Infant clothing sizes?
GAP (2-5T)

This is my first child, and I'm trying to organize the clothes we have for him according to size. Only I just realized that some of them are just marked "3" or "6" or "9". If something is marked "3" does that mean it's 0-3 months, or 3-6? I know it probably depends on who made the clothes, but a lot of the ones that are marked with just one number are Carters brand. I also know from baby-sitting other kids that the month is just a guideline (for example, I sat for a little girl who was 15 months, but wore stuff in the 18 months size) and that the clothes are really based on weight, but... I would like to keep all the clothes together and don't know if I should put things marked 3 with my other things that are marked 0-3, or if they should be with the rest of my 3-6 stuff? I also realize this may be a dumb question, but like I said before it's my first! :-)
Edit: I know 3t is toddler, but these are NOT toddler clothes, lol. Carters does their clothing brand (at least all the Carters we have is done like this) with just a NB, 3, 6, 9... I know for sure there's no way the 3 we have is a toddler outfit. But thanks y'all for the answers so far!

I had the same thing happen to me. I had no idea too!! My first child born June 19. I had the size 3 with the 0-3. But I soon learned that they belonged with the 3-6 months. My daughter is now 11 weeks and wearing the 0-3 months still. the size 3 months are too big for her. She currently weighs 11 pounds 14 ounces and is 24 inches (all the 50% percentile)

infant child care field?
Oshkosh (3,4T)

I am interested in working and taking care of infants. I worked in the front office of an elementary school and now i work at Carter's a baby clothing store. what i really want is to be able to play and take care of babies. I seem to find my only options are working at a daycare(and being specific about being in the infant room) or being nanny. the only problem about being a nanny is i can't just ask every woman with a baby "can i baby sit your child?"

I was hoping someone had more ideas about careers that involve infant care.

This might be dumb to comment but there should be like a nanny-temp-agency. or something. thanks for any help you can give.

i am a nanny and i love it, a very satisfying job. there are agencies and web pages to get you jobs for both a nursery and being a nanny.
1. you need qualifications (nvq 3 or b-tech level 3 or above) you working in the front office at a elementary school wont have give you the right experience to do this job, but its something. i realized now you said elementary school so you must be American (the qualifications i said are English ones don't know what you would need for America sorry) but i do have American web pages to be a nanny and not all family's ask for qualifications

nanny pages:
greataupair.com
http://www.au-pair-world.co.uk/
http://www.canguroencasa.com/
http://www.nanny-agency.com/UK-Nannies.c fm
http://www.nanniesinc.com/

you put your profile on here and the parents find you. i had great luck through http://www.canguroencasa.com/ they do lots of countries including America

you should look on google type in "nanny agency's Chicago" or where ever you are and it should bring up plenty. you can also find out what qualifications you need (if you want to work in a nursery)

i hope this helps you. it really is a great career i love it!
