I am a first time mom whose 4 month old is just out grown her 3-6 clothing. It is so hard to even purchase 2 months ahead (I keep all receipts and leave the tags on instead of pulling them all off and washing items...learned lesson). It is always hard to buy in season even for a baby unless you want the leftovers. I am finding that there is very little in the 9-12 month category as babies seem to be between infant and toddler stage. I am also frustrated as we are going on a cruise at the very end of April and I am struggling between 6-9 and 12 months for clothing (I am stuck with tons of summer clothing in the 6-9 range and I fear that will be too small). Department stores do not have any fancy dresses in the 6-9 or 12 month. We have a Carter's outlet (which is nice as they take back tagged items forever). I have also purchased basics at Target, Walmart, Kohls and Macy's. I can not find many pjs in th 12 month range as well. Any input would be appreciated!!!
Thank you
Try E-bay or a good second hand store (Once upon a Time is a good one). Becasue children grow out of sizes so fast you can usually get some really cute/nice used stuff if you take time to look. Babies R Us is good for in store shopping. If you have to, go a little big...at least you know she will eventually grow into it.

the weather is SO UNPREDICTABLE here. we could have 4 foot of snow, or it could be 60 degrees and sunny. i'm having a hard time deciding what sizes to buy for clothing. the doctor is GUESSING the baby will weigh around 8 pounds (based on ultrasound measurements).
no doubt about it, the weather will be MUCH nicer by mid June. if i buy newborn-3 month sizes will that get me up to the middle of June... and then buy 3-6 month sizes to get from mid-June through the end of August? i want to shop before all of the cute stuff is gone... it's bad enough that the stores have already clearanced out all of the winter stuff anticipating summer... ANY HELP would be appreciated!
Many children never fit into the 0-3 month size clothes. I would buy the 3-6 for the smallest size...and then go up from there. I had many clothes bought and given to me that my children could never wear. Especially if the doctor says that he will be 8 lbs. I am the mother of babies born weighing 8-1, 9-9, and 9-5. I would never recommend buying 0-3.

1. How to give your newborn a sponge bath? I mean, can I use a waschcloth? Do I start out with a damp one with soap, then a damp one with water? I've never given one but know you have to until the umbilical cord falls off.
2. If you put diaper rash ointment on every diaper change to prevent diaper rash, do you put it on the boys penis too? Or just the butt?
3. I live in a very warm climate. Can I dress him in just a onsie (day and night in summer) I will change the onsie at night.
4. Can I wash our clothes together if use Dreft? Or should it still be seperate even though I am using the baby detergent?
5. When can he hold up his head on his own? Should I wait until then to place him on his tummy for supervised tummy time? (NO I wouldn't leave him alone like that or let him sleep that way, I mean for strengthening the muscles)
6. About how many months did your size N or 1 pampers last you? How many/day?
These questions aren't ever addressed in magazines!
A big thank you to all the great answers. Thank you for taking the time to answer all my questions! They are very helpful.
Oh fyi the ac isn't on at night because it doesn't reach my room anyway, so my room is hot, yuck
1. Yes, that is how you do it. I like to wrap the baby in a towel and then do part by part so that the baby doesn't get cold.
2. I think it is a good idea to use ointment every change to avoid getting a bad rash. I also think it is good to avoid the wipes, in the beginning at least, because they can irritate the baby skin. I usually use cotton with water and then pat dry the area. For messy diapers I wash with baby soap.
3. They say the baby should wear a layer more than you. But if you don't have ac at home and it is hot than I believe just an onsie should be fine. Be ready to change clothes often because babies tend to get their clothes dirty frequently by spiting up, leaking diapers, etc.
4.Yes you can. But do not use fabric softener.
5. You can put the baby on his tummy even before he is able to hold his head, this will help him. But he probably won't like and take it for a very short time in the beginning and yes, you should stay by his side.
6. All depends on the size of your baby.

I have somewhere between 6 and 8,000 pieces of infant-children's clothing. I have decided to sell them by having a yard sale. Due to safety concerns, I do not think that it would be wise to sell out of my home through Classified ads, Craigslist, etc. My only concern is, how would I organize all of these? Everything is mixed up, both boy and girl, all sizes from newborn to 14. I also do not have enough tables, racks, or hangers for everything. We have tons of summer pool parties and cookouts planned so I do not have a ton of time to devote to this but I need them moved quickly. There is no way that I could sort everything out by size and tag everything! We are talking about truck loads of stuff here. I am hoping to price everything between $ .25 and $1.50 just to clear everything out ASAP. What is the best way to organize all of this is the least amount of time? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!!
You've already said you don't have time to sort everything by size. Put huge boxes on your tables with felt-tip pen giving Newborn-to-6-Months, keeping your categories wide enough to allow the fewest boxes, and prices from $.25 --$1.50 on the boxes. You have too many to sort by gender. Furnish grocery store plastic bags for people who don't bring their own. When you're handed the items, charge by quality, not size.
my son is 13 months old and for his whole life the boys clothes in the infant section at walmart seems to be getting smaller and smaller but the girls section is getting bigger and bigger. i was lucky to find clothes that were his size before they were gone i had to by his summer clothes in january when the display hit the floor because now they are all gone well for his size any way. i called the 1-800 number and the manager of my local store called me back and said that they were in the process of starting a remodel of that section and that there would be more there. i was like that does not fix the problem of there not being any boy clothes there. you would think that since the boy clothes go like hot cakes there would be more.
so do any of you other mommies fell the same or is it just my area?
glad to know that i am not the only one. i just do not see why there are so many girls and not boys.
yea i know about meijers but they do not have them down where i live i kind of like them better at least while i lived in ohio but i was not a mom then
we should all PROTEST walmart but it will be hard because i can not afford target or other stores for that matter
Damian has cute shirts and shorts for the summer but when its fall and winter i do not know what we will do.
most of the shirts have cute sayings on them like.
my dad knows alot buy mommy knows better
thats it i am telling grandpa
i do not have to take this i am going to grandmas
and so on they are so cute
pipers mommy where do you live in my area there are maybe 5 racks of boys and at least 10 girls. i find almost all of his clothes cute the only thing that i do not find cute is the ya gabba gabba line but do not like show oh and sponge bob
I have been noticing that as well.It is very aggravating..There is very little space for boys clothing where I live, whereas the girls have more than half of the baby section.Drives me crazy.

Infant Girl Clothes: Review of Rare Editions Spring/Summer Girls ...
I usually LOVE all outfits from Rare Editions. However, this outfit fell short of my usual expectations of them. The flowers folded in half during the first washing and are near impossible to flatten out.The fabric stains easily and does not wash well. Also my daughter complains that it is not comfortable.I DO suggest buying Rare Editions outfits, just not this one, unless you plan on using it for a one-time event or having it professionally dry cleaned every time. She will love the cute pink gingham and white Capri pant set. The top is fully lined with cute pink gingham bows that lie at the shoulders. The front of the top is accented with Daisy appliques and closes in the back with three buttons....
