Hi, im wanting to start a project, making a dress for a infant/toddler and im stuck as where to start. does anybody have any tips for me of where to get patterns from or how to make clothing.
Thank you very much for any help!
You can get patterns at any craft store, but JoAnn Fabrics will have many more, since it is a dedicated fabric store. It also has teh widest variety of fabrics, though some Walmarts and Targets also have a fabric section which can be less inexpensieve. However, JoAnns has a lot of things on sale at any given time, and it is certainly where I would start.
Many patterns for baby clothing are also available free online (do a google search). Using an online pattern will be slightly harder, since you may have to make measurements yourself (most patterns you buy are paper that you cut out and trace onto the fabric.
It will help a lot if you have access to a sewing machine and someone to help you use one. Much faster than hand stitiching, though you can do that as well. A pattern will tell you how much fabric to buy. You will also need matching thread and pins to holding fabric together, at a bare minimum.
Dresses are nice in that they don't have to fit very precisiely to look good, so it is a great project for a beginner. Most patterns have a difficulty rating - look for one that is easy if you are a beginning sewer. They will probably have easier ways of doing clasps and such - buttonholes and zippers are both pretty hard.
This Video will show you how to make infant or toddler pants without a pattern. I am sorry the video is so dark at the end. This is my first video ...
My daughter is 18 months old and just inherited a load of spring dresses. I am trying desperately to find those little diaper covers to buy separately, in a variety of colors, for her to wear under these dresses because it looks much nicer without the diaper showing all the time! I don't need the plastic covers for cloth diapers. I have googled this, yahoo searched it, ebay and a few others and can't find anything! So I'd like to know if anyone knows if they even sell them separately from a dress, and if so, maybe a few places to look for them! Sorry if I'm rambling, I've been in front of this computer forever it seems to no avail..........Thanks for all your help!!
They're called bloomers and I don't think you can buy them seperately. I know you can in botique stores but they're usually white and lacey, and pricey. If you have any thrift stores or yard sales in your area, look for dresses (even with stains) with bloomers. If you don't like the dresses, you can trash them, its the bloomers you want anyway. I did this for my daughter last year. Its amazing even how one pair of bloomers will go with many dresses. You can also look on ebay. Another idea? (for the casual dresses)Cut off a pair of her jeans from this past winter/fall and you can make them capri's or bloomers. Cut them to the desired length and then roll them up a bit. Its really cute and goes with anything really. Good luck!

This year Easter is on April 12th and my unborn daughter is due March 29th. Assuming she arrives at least close to her due date, she will be approximately 2 weeks old on Easter. My family has invited us for dinner and such on Easter and I would like to have a cute dress for my daughter if possible but everywhere I look I only see cute dresses for toddlers. Where can I find an infant dress that is Easterish? Lol. Maybe something similar to this...

I am looking for a few flower girl dresses that will be options for our flower girl's mom to choose from, but I am unsure as to how much would be too much to ask her to spend. I don't want her to feel obligated to purchase a dress that is outside her price range. Should I send her a few that are less expensive and ask her if the prices are okay, or should I talk to her first and find out what her price options are before I look around (I don't want to make her feel awkward on-the-spot if it's not much)? This is my fiance's sister, with whom I am very close, so I have more flexibility with what we can talk about as far as the money aspect.
Also, a side question -- any suggestions on where to find nice flower girl dresses for an infant/toddler? Our flower girl will only be about 18 months old at the time of the wedding. And yes, I know the problems that can come up with such a young kid in the wedding, but we're okay with it and are sticking with her as our choice.
Thanks!!!!
And obviously I want to make sure that the flower girl will be comfortable and will be able to move around easily. A comfortable flower girl is a happy flower girl! :-)
All the flower girl dresses I have looked out are about $100ish!
I have a 2 year old who will be almost 3 by the time I deliver with my 2nd in July. Just curious of how you do nightly routines, (bath, getting dressed, story, etc.) when you have a little one that will be there too. Just a note that my hubby works nights and will not be able to help in getting kids down. Any other advice on any other routines during the day that need to be done with a toddler and a little one will be also helpful too! Thanks!
We have a 3 year old and a 5 month old. While both parents are home in the evenings, we still have a routine to get everything done in an orderly manner. One suggestion is to get the 3 year old bathed and to bed before the infant. While this may seem counter-intuitive (i.e. you would think that the younger one should go to sleep first), it is easier to keep an eye on the infant while getting the toddler ready than vice versa because the infant is less mobile. Put the infant in a bouncer or something until you are done putting the toddler to bed. Now you can focus on getting the infant ready, and it will be much quieter when you are putting the infant to bed. It is still challenging, but it will make it manageable.
