Clothes For Newborns

i have bought special detergent to wash my newborns clothes in but my question is can i wash all my babies brand new clothes together?? Will the dye run and ruin them all? of course id wash the whites all together but what about red, blue , baby blue, black etc? i dont want to wash EVERY new article of clothing seprate but i dont want the dye to run and ruin all the clothes.

I washed all my baby's clothes all together (reds, whites, pinks etc) in COLD water and I never had a problem with colours running. Just group colours together together and wash whites separate for the first wash but you shouldn't worry about separating blues from greens from reds.

Also washing in cold water stops colours running.

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and on anual leave for a week but I think it might be too early to wash them and leave them in the draws for the next 10 weeks, then again it's possible I could go into labor early too.
When did you wash your newborns clothes?
I have new and hand-me-down clothes.
Do I need to wash his new nappies too?

you should wash it blankets burps cloth's sock and so on that the baby would wear. With my first one I wasn't ready for him yet because I went to labor four weeks early. I was due with my second May 27. I had his clothes washed before may 18. Because that was the first due date they give me till they changed it and I thougt I would end going to labor this one and he came two days late. I would go ahead and you should be fine. But you could do it when you are 35 weeks along or so they be ready,,

I know that Dreft is always advertised,but it is pricey.Don't we just need one without any dyes?Thanks for any tips.
Cindy-I can't really do the extra rinse because I have to pay to do laundry in my apt :( thank you for all of your advice though.For some reason I only buy the liquid kind,I have been spoiled ha.

when you're first washing them, just a rinse thru with clean water is fine to get any chemicals or dust etc..out of them

After that, unless you or the father have any skin allergies then there usually isn't any reason to have to use a special laundry detergent. You could get one box of dreft to start with and this should last a while as it takes a lot of baby clothes and blankets to make up a full load of washing. Once that box is used up just start using your regular detergent and washing her clothes in with yours.
Because she is going to come into contact with things that arent washed in dreft (your clothes when you hold her, couch cushions, your bed sheets, other peoples things...) you will know soon enough whether s/he even needs you to be using a sensitive laundry soap.

I've had three kids and I did use some baby sensitive stuff with the first two until the box ran out but there really wasnt any need to.

Also remember, you really only need to use 1/4 of what it says on the box per load.

i use downy and i was wondering if it was o.k.and sometimes i use this brand called sun.i've been using both for like all 6 weeks of her life and all of a sudden about 3 days ago she started breaking out on her face only.i don't think it could be b/c of the soap b/c the breaking out isn't happening anywhere else on her.could it just be a case of baby acne?
I'm going to ask the doctor and all i was just wodering other peoples opinions:-)
I was also wondering if it's o.k. to wash my clothes with her clothes.i always do but if it's not good to do i will stop.i'm a first time mommy so i have lots of questions.thanx:-)

honestly, I just wash her clothes in with ours and use regular detergent.. not all babies have sensitive skin and require special detergents.. like someone else mentioned.. your baby is laying on you, against your clothing anyways.

I dont see the difference between washing clothes together or separate? Her clothes are actually dirtier than mine because she spits up, and occasionally has a leaky diaper.. its all being washed either way.

If the breakouts are only on the face, chances are its just acne, which is common at this age. If it was a reaction to the detergent, you'd see it on the body as well.

I am on a budget.I know they have kinds that are pricey for baby's sensitive skin,but are there cheaper ones out there?Any advice would be helpful :)

you can use any detergent at first really. try a free and clear kind if you can. but, babies are up against our clothes and our sheets and blankets all day anyways so it never made sense to me to buy a whole different detergent than what we use anyways. we use all free&clear currently.
