What one is safer/better .and actually worth your money.
you can use anything that says hypoallergenic. I personally never got any of the special baby detergents and just washed my daughter's stuff in All free and clear. it's also a lot easier to just be able to throw everyone's laundry in together.
Washing baby clothes is a parenting task that mothers take care of as a part of baby care.Washing baby clothes must be done with utmost care to ...
I am sure lots of people do. If it is your only option and that is where you wash your own clothes then Maybe wash your clothes first and then put the baby's clothes in right after..
Some people wash NASTY things at public laundrymats just because they dont want to use their own washer (soiled clothes, pet stuff, etc)

Is there any difference between the perfume free detergents? Why does Dreft claim to be better?
Dreft just smells better i think lol. I think they are all pretty similar, we've used quite a few because my youngest has very sensitive skin. If you look most of the ingredients are the same. Especially the top ones. And yes i have used the Purex one, and it seemed to do just as good of a job, but without that great clean baby smell. lol

Yes, it's a good idea to wash the clothes before baby wears them. Most clothes are treated with a chemical called 'sizing' in the factory, to keep them looking crisp and fresh in the store. It's not harmful but can irritate baby's skin. (And if you're paranoid about people having touched the clothes or gotten germs on them, you'll also feel better if you wash them first.)
However, I wouldn't recommend washing everything now. If baby ends up being huge, or an unexpected sex, you might want to be able to return/exchange some things. Baby clothes are tiny, so the entire wardrobe won't be more than one washer load. So I'd wash just a few things now, and the rest can be washed when you get home from the hospital, or while you're there. (A nice helpful thing for Grandma or Uncle to do for you.)
I wash my clothes in Tide is that okay or for some reason does it have to be Dreft. I washed my first daughter's clothes in Dreft for the first few months and after that washed it with regular Tide. Does it really matter?
Some babies skin is sensitive to the detergent. Dreft is milder and rinses out of the clothes better so that the clothes do not irritate the skin.

Do you wash baby clothes before putting them on a newborn ...
I just wondered whether it is common to wash and iron new clothes for a newborn baby before the baby wears them for the first time? All the women in my country do that but to me it seems pointless if the clothes are brand new. They say a baby needs a sterile environment in the first weeks of his life, but to me it just seems like a bit too anxious behaviour. References :
